Jena is a small city where the municipality makes maximum effort to provide people with easy transportation options. The most common ones are trams and bicycles. Roads, pavements and cycle paths are nicely constructed and you may travel safely almost anywhere with bikes. As it is a steep city, mountain bikes are preferred by the majority. Trams are working to all parts of the city till late hours and they are quite often especially during the rush hours. There are possibilities of high discounts for students or annual members. Cars are also a big part of the traffic in Jena, as a fast developing city of a country which is producing some of the most selling cars like Opel, Volkswagen, Audi, Mercedes and BMW. For traveling to other cities, trains are one of the options in Jena. With its two stations in the city center, you may travel all around Germany. The closest cities close by are Weimar (22km), Erfurt (65km), Leipzig (87km) and Dresden (174km).
